Courtney’s Song
Duration: 2:15
This work was written for Barb Zerr, a dear friend, colleague and brilliant pianist. I have dedicated the work to Courtney Kehler, the daughter of a dear friend. Courtney as a young aspiring 10 year old pianist has great passion for music, therefore I felt it only fitting to write a work which would challenge and inspire her as a budding pianist.
“Children are God’s most precious gifts. We as musicians and composers must ensure the treasures of music both past and present are passed on to the youth of today. To teach, nurture and inspire the great artists of tomorrow”.
Colours
Duration: 0:40
Written using quartal and quintal harmony, Colours allows the young pianist to explore the vast colours and limitless possibilities beyond tertian harmony. Combining these interval types forms a more complex sonority, enriching the harmonic language.

Sereniteit
Duration: 1:15
The goal of meditation is to reach a state of serenity, when your mind is still and perfectly calm. I had the great opportunity to visit Vancouver BC, Canada in May 2014 to attend the world premiere of my work Mei Li de Hua. It was fortuitous that my accommodations were in the home of my cousin, Dawn Grant and her family who literally live at Lynn Head Water Regional Park. To be surrounded by the majestic mountains, lush forests and streams and to walk the seawall was “food for a composer’s soul”. I was astounded by the breathtaking beauty and found it hard to believe that the ocean, whipped by winds during a storm, can ever return to a state of serenity, where its surface looks like glass. It is that state of serenity that we as humans must seek out daily as in the calm we are at peace and capable of rejuvenating our mind, body and soul mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually to face the storms we encounter as we journey through life. Sereniteit was written at the invitation of Belgian composer, Danielle Bass for the Weekend Contemporain 2015 Expo-concert project February 27 - 28, 2015, Espace Toots, Brussels Belgium. The concert features pianist Fabio Schinazi winner Belfius Classic premiering 62 one-minute works by composers globally. I was honoured and humbled that my work was chosen by Belgian artist Jean-Louis Delacolline for the realization of a picture for the exhibition to the concert on February 2015. Sereniteit is dedicated to my dear cousin Dawn Grant whose gracious nature provided me with space and solace filling my spirit and nurturing my mind and soul.
